In a series of semi-regular features planned for the Burns Recognition Project, I’ll be concentrating on the partners involved in the DNBC. Robert Burns collections are to be found all over Scotland, and the new redeveloped site will aim to provide a coherent single place to visit and learn more about the various venues which hold these fascinating collections.
With the upcoming Robert Burns Conference: ‘Artefact’, it seemed fitting to feature the Centre for Robert Burns Studies in the first of these posts.
Just before Christmas, I was fortunate enough to meet up with academic Gerry Carruthurs at the University of Glasgow. It was great to talk about his plans for the future of the Centre, and the Burns Recognition Project itself. His enthusiasm seemed to know no bounds! The Centre itself hold a vast amount of literature on all aspects of Burns and his life. As you can see from the images below, there is more than enough material to keep any Burns enthusiast going for weeks.
Established in 2007, its mission is to develop Robert research, scholarship, and teaching in the area of Robert Burns, his cultural period and related literature. Check out the two associated catalogues below to find out more info on Burns monuments and private and domestic Burns-related objects:

These catalogues only scratch the surface in terms of what can be gleamed with research into Robert Burns. Academics and Burnsians are looking forward to the completion of ‘Editing Robert Burns for the 21st Century’, a multi-volume edition of Burn’s work published by Oxford University Press.
